The Kentucky Board of Dentistry is an agency governed by the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The Board is a separate and distinct entity from any professional association. The main purpose of the Board is to protect the public by administering the Dental Practice Act and regulating the dental profession. The Board is self-supporting and receives no general tax appropriation. It is funded through fees assessed for licensing its dental professionals.

BOARD SEAT NOMINATIONS AND ELECTION

Attention Kentucky Dental Hygienists
The Kentucky Board of Dentistry is accepting nominations for one seat on the KBD for a dental hygienist whose terms will expire June 30, 2015 (Mara Beth Womack R.D.H., M.S., C.D.A.).  To be eli
gible for a seat on the KBD you must:
1.  
Have been an actual resident and licensed practicing dental hygienist of the Commonwealth for not less than five (5) years immediately preceding his or her appointment to the board;
2.  
Be in good standing with the board;
3.  
Not have been disciplined by the board in the past eight (8) years (a private admonishment shall not count as discipline);
4.  
Not receive compensation from or have a financial interest in any dental college or dental department of any institution of learning, dental supply business, or any entity over which the board has regulatory authority or sets standards for.
NOMINATIONS FOR THE DENTAL HYGIENIST SEAT must be made by a licensed dental hygienist.

Attention Kentucky Dentists:

The Kentucky Board of Dentistry is accepting nominations for two seats on the KBD for dentist members whose terms will expire June 30, 2015 (Sidney Brantley D.M.D. – Western area and Jason E. Ford D.M.D. M.D.– Central area). To be eligible for a seat on the KBD you must:


1. Have been an actual resident and licensed practicing dentist of the Commonwealth for not less than five (5) years immediately preceding his or her appointment to the board;
2. Be in good standing with the board;
3. Not have been disciplined by the board in the past eight (8) years (a private admonishment shall not count as discipline);
4. Not receive compensation from or have a financial interest in any dental college or dental department of any institution of learning, dental supply business, or any entity over which the board has regulatory authority or sets standards for.

NOMINATIONS FOR THE DENTIST SEATS must be made by a licensed dentist.
 

All nominations must be in writing and may be presented in either letter form or by email.  Nominee must have been notified and accepted their nomination.  Please send email nominations to KBD@ky.gov.  Nominations submitted by letter should be sent to:

Here are some important dates to remember concerning nominations and the election process:

  1. Nominations will be open February 12, 2015 (notice will also be posted on our website) and will remain open until the close of business March 4, 2015;
  2. Thereafter, a review committee of the Board will review nominations to ensure candidates meet the requirements listed above;
  3. The ONLINE ONLY election will open Friday, March 6, 2014 at noon and will close Friday, March 13, 2015 at noon;
  4. The election will be conducted on our website located at http://dentistry.ky.gov;  
  5. The results of the election will be announced at the March meeting of the Board scheduled for March 14, 2015;
  6. The names of the top three vote recipients for each position will be forwarded to the Office of the Governor for his consideration.

 

If you are a KY Dental Hygienist and you have not renewed, your LICENSE HAS EXPIRED.
You may not work until you have reinstated your license.

 

2014 KENTUCKY REGISTERED DENTAL HYGIENIST LICENSE REINSTATEMENT INFORMATION

Do not wait to contact staff before you complete your reinstatement.

If you need to make changes to your General Supervision/Anesthesia or other privileges - complete your reinstatement first and changes to your privileges will be made after you have completed the online reinstatement.

Please update your own contact information in the online renewal address page.  You do not need to contact staff to make updates.

 

When reinstating your license online, please make sure you select the following when prompted to do so to complete the reinstatement:

 

1. View Receipt

2. Finish and Print License

3. Download License and Wallet Card

4. Print Your License (Licenses will not be mailed)

DENTAL LABS

 

NEW REGULATION REQUIRES DENTAL LABS TO REGISTER

Effective June 18, 2014, all dental laboratories doing business in Kentucky are required to register with the Kentucky Board of Dentistry. The required registration fee is $150 for each laboratory.

Effective June 18, 2014, all Kentucky dentists shall only use the services of a commercial dental laboratory that is registered with the Kentucky Board of Dentistry. All Kentucky dentists are required to include the registration number of the dental laboratory on the dentist's work order.

ATTENTION DENTAL LABS

The Board of Dentistry was required under the State Records Retention Law to purge and destroy all previous Lab Registration files from 2009 and earlier. Registration of laboratories was removed from the law in 2010 when the Kentucky Dental Practice Act was rewritten.

All laboratories must fill out a NEW registration form and you will be issued a NEW Registration Number.

Check here for the status of your application for licensure.  Please allow two business days AFTER your application is received in our office before your name is added to the spreadsheet.

***If you are a dental hygienist and you meet the requirements for a Local Anesthesia Certificate in Kentucky, you must submit a SEPARATE application and $50 fee.

Requirement to Release Patient Records


A Dentist is required to release to the patient a copy of the patient's record.  A dentist may not deny a written request for any reason, including unpaid fees.
