Facility Inspections

It is extremely important that sedation facility inspection appointments are NOT CANCELLED or rescheduled!

Please insure you have EVERY item on the checklist at your office BEFORE you schedule an appoinment and check your calendar carefully before you confirm the date and time with the inspector.

DO NOT schedule patients for sedation until after your facility has passed inspection.

 

AED Requirement

201 KAR 8:550, only dentists who perform general anesthesia/deep sedation and moderate sedation would be required to have an automated external defibrillator in their office. General Dentists and Minimal Sedation permit holders would not be required to have an AED

201 KAR 8:550 Sedation and Anesthesia

Conscious Sedation Permit holders will be asked to convert their current CS permit to the new sedation permit types when they renew their dental license for 2012-2013:

During the license renewal process, current general anesthesia permit holders shall convert their GA permit to a Deep Sedation/General Anesthesia permit.

The 2012-2013 online license renewal will contain questions specific to this legal mandate.  The conversion is a very simple and straight forward process.

Continuing Education for Permit Holders


CONSCIOUS SEDATION PERMITS
Sedation Permit Holders (Minimal Pediatric Sedation, Moderate Enteral Sedation, Moderate Parenteral Sedation, or Moderate Pediatric Sedation) are required to complete not less than 6 hours of clinical continuing education related to sedation or anesthesia in a classroom setting that includes hands-on airway management during the two year term (ie. renewal cycle or biennium) of the permit;
OR
shall maintain ACLS or PALS certification.

This education requirement shall not be used to satisfy other continuing education requirements and shall be in addition to the 30 hours of continuing education required under 201 KAR 8:532.

At the November 12, 2011 Board Meeting, the Kentucky Board of Dentistry resolved that licensees may apply the DIFFERENCE only in C.E. hours used to meet anesthesia renewal and/or application requirements toward the regular 30 hours of continuing education required for license renewal.


 

DEEP SEDATION / GENERAL ANESTHESIA PERMITS
Deep Sedation/General Anesthesia permit holders shall complete not less than 4 hours of on-sight clinical continuing education related to sedation or anesthesia during the two year term (ie. renewal cycle or biennium) of the permit;
AND
maintain ACLS or PALS certification.

This education requirement shall not be used to satisfy other continuing education requirements and shall be in addition to the 30 hours of continuing education required under 201 KAR 8:532.
