Board Nominations Now Open

Nominations are now open for two dentist seats on the Board of Dentistry. The current terms for both seats will expire on June 30, 2025. We will accept nominations for either seat until April 30. Nominees must be Kentucky residents who are actively practicing dentists and in good standing with the Board. If more than three qualified nominations exist for a board seat, an online election will be held. The top three vote recipients for each seat will be forwarded to Gov. Beshear for consideration. Appointees will begin a four-year term on July 01.

For more information about serving on the Board of Dentistry or to make a nomination, contact Executive Director Jeff Allen at 502-429-7280 or jeffrey.allen@ky.gov.

Regulatory Changes Take Effect

The Board of Dentistry's most recent regulatory activities are as follows:

201 KAR 8:610 - Dental Community Health Workers
This new regulation completed its legislative review during the 2025 General Assembly and is now in effect. It addresses the supervisory scope of dentists when working with registered Community Health Workers.

201 KAR 8.563 - Licensure of Dental Hygienists
Having also completed the legislative review process during the legislative session, the revision to 201 KAR 8.563 contains minor updates to the existing licensing rules governing dental hygienists.

Mandatory e-Prescribing of Controlled Substances in Effect

As part of the Kentucky Controlled Substances Act, KRS 218A.182 requires electronic prescribing of controlled substances (EPCS), meaning that with few exceptions, paper prescriptions are no longer allowed. This applies to practitioners regardless of practice size, quantity of prescriptions issued, or type of charting system. Prescribers can choose to purchase a standalone prescribing solution or one associated with an electronic health record (EHR) service. For more information, visit the KASPER page or contact the Help Desk.
